IRS Finally Supports TIN Masking

Metallic puzzleAfter many years the IRS has gotten around to supporting TIN masking on mailed documents. For a long time the ‘important tax information’ stamp on envelopes has been an invitation to steal an identity; however, with TIN masking, we may be getting a little closer to being able to address this. There are limitations to the program as currently proposed within Federal filing, and there are even more questions about how this impacts state filing. For many of these reasons, Convey will not be supporting TIN Masking for Tax Year 2009, and instead, will be focused on clearing-up questions for Tax Year 2010.
